People who owned enslaved folks were given the responsibility of telling them they were officially free. Those who owned enslaved folks did a REALLY f***ed up thing and didn’t tell them. Like we said REAL EFFED UP.
JUNE 19, 1865
Union soldiers arrived to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation, truly freeing those that were enslaved.
