Somewhere over the Black and Brown rainbow, your grands’, great-grands’ and ours were not—in fact—unfamiliar with what it is to step out as your truest you with your bae or boo on your arm in private or braving the bigots in public.
In the age of SEA-RAWR-TEE aka ATCT—Allergic-To-Critical-Thinking—it may have never been more important to tell the truth about the past. The erasure of Black and Brown LGBTQ+ histories, whether omitted in our textbooks or our lived experience, only serves to justify violence against our people in the past, the present, and future.
Marriage and the lavatory are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the state of our kinfolk in the LGBTQ+ community. You don’t have to search long to find unconscionable disparities in life expectancy, housing, workplace discrimination, and enduring violence, simply for existing.
All the more reason we can’t wait for you to revel in these moments of Black and Brown Queer Joy—brought to you by a few trailblazers, both living and legendary!
